Watkins modernization meeting with DPR on February 11

As part of the Watkins modernization process, there will be a meeting Wednesday, February 11th at 6pm to discuss co-location issues between DC Public Schools (DCPS) and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR). Watkins is considered a "co-located" site because the school (managed by DCPS) is joined to the multipurpose room and field (managed by DPR) these facilities are used by both parties.

The plans being discussed to renovate Watkins Elementary currently do not consider any changes to the multipurpose room or any other space managed by DPR. My understanding is that until the Department of General Services (DGS) and DCPS reach an agreement with DPR on site priorities and needs, the architects cannot provide broader plans. In addition, parents and members of the community have expressed a desire that DGS develop a "master plan" for the Watkins modernization that would include potential renovations to space currently managed by DPR.

If you are interested in participating in this discussion, please attend Wednesday evening at 6pm at Watkins.
